An exhibition “for Nagpur’ on works on various facets of Nagpur was inaugurated at the hands of Hon’ Shri. Chandrasekhar Bawankule, State minister for Energy and Guardian Minister of Nagpur. The exhibition provided glimpses of the various works done by the students of Women’s Education society’s Smt. ManoramabaiMundle college of Architecture for the development of Nagpur City. In its existence of 25 years the institute has thrived to address various issues for the development of the city independently or in collaboration with different departments may be under academic exercises or under the college’s Design cell. Various issues right from Revitalization of public spaces, Redevelopment of old settlements , markets, Development of Kasturchand park, Gosikhurd dam rehabilitation projects, Nag river development, Rejuvenation of abandoned buildings to the Redevelopment of Metro Rail corridor and Site development of Metro stations etc were undertaken and exhibited.
Working for Nagpur has extended an opportunity to students to imbibe the socially responsive personality and to be humble towards environment and context. The role of an architecture institute is also to document and preserve the heritage and important built environment of the surroundings.
The vision of the college is to reach global standards by deliberate modernization without losing essential characteristics of our tradition. With this vision Smt. ManoramabaiMundle college of Architecture apart from giving formal architecture education attempts to make the students aware of their social responsibility as an architect. We try to achieve this by undertaking academic exercises which addresses some social or urban area issue. The aim is also to make the students understand urban area issues and to propose user friendly relevant solutions to resolve the identified problems by innovative and conscious approach, evolving an architectural design program.
This exhibition was a part of Silver jubilee“ Srujan”of the institute to commemorate 25 years of its creative existence. It is a premier institute in Central India imparting architecture education to girl students. A series of yearlong events have been planned as part of the celebrations.
Prof. S.A. Deshpande being one of the pioneers of the institute was felicitated on this occasion. Principal of the college Dr. UjwalaChakradeo narrated the journey of college’s development since its inception in 1993 and threw light on the various works undertaken by the college and its contribution towards city’s development. A compilation document of the works “Nagpur: Study and Design Interventions” was released on this occasion.

The other programs planned are a grand Alumni Meet and cultural event in the month of December 2017. Alumni of the institute right from its first batch will be participating in the event and will showcase their work in the meet. On 9th and 10th March 2018, the college will host an International Conference on the theme “ From Paradox to paradigm. Architecture in the Age of Network Society”. The conference will feature talks by architects of national and international repute. Participants will also be invited to send in their research papers.
The program was organized under the guidance of Dr. PannaAkhani, Director and Secretary, Women’s Education Society and Dr.UjwalaChakradeo, principal of the college. Prof. PratimaDhoke was the convenor of the program.
