Annual drawing competition 2022-23

An Annual drawing competition was conducted in online mode on 31st January 2021on The theme of Revamp Pandemic. 657 students from all over India participated for the competition. The competition was coordinated by Ar.Mrinmayee Tiwari, Ar. Isha Pawar and Prof. Vishwas Dikhole with the help of students council. Overall the competition faced a great response.

The winners of 12th annual drawing competition were also declared.  St. Joseph’s Convent, Sadar, Jabalpur was awarded the  best School award.

13th Annual Winter Drawing Competition 12th Feb2022

Smt. Manoramabai Mundle college of Architecture, Nagpur has organized 13th Annual Winter drawing competition on the theme “India@75 Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” for the period of 20 days from 22nd July to 12th Aug 2022, on online mode. It was categorized in 4 age groups as per classes with suitable topic for drawing.

Submission of the participants drawings were taken on separately on drive as per group.  Around 900 students participated in the competition. This competition was coordinated by Ar. Vaijayanti Yadav & Dr. Seema Burele along with Students Council of SMMCA, Nagpur. The received entries were initially shortlisted and then three prizes from each group were chosen.  Maximum consolation prizes were declare to boost the morale of the participants.

Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture in association with INTACH Nagpur Chapter conducted Annual Winter Drawing & Essay Competition on 2nd Feb. 2020 at college premise for school and junior college students from Nursery to Standard 12th. The theme for the competition was Gandhi @ 150. The objective of the competition was to create awareness among children about the environmental issues and possibility for better future. The topics for drawing competition were : Group 1(Nursery to K.G II): Indian Village, Group 2: (Std. 1st-Std. 4th): Swachh Bharat.  Group 3 (Std. 5thto Std. 8th): My India My Heritage, Group 4 (Std.9thto Std.12th): Peaceful India.

The Drawing & Essay Competition received a tremendous response with almost 753 students from 90 schools and colleges from Nagpur and nearby areas participating in the activity. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Sameer Meghe, MLA Hingna, Nagpur, Mr. Ashok Singh Thakur, INTACH Governing Council Member, New Delhi and Convener, INTACH Chandrapur Chapter along with    Mr. Kishor Divekar, Convener, INTACH Nagpur Chapter.

Exhibition ‘Vastukruti’ was organized in which undergraduate and postgraduate student’s Architectural work were displayed.Student volunteers from all the years of Smt. ManoramabaiMundle college of Architecture worked enthusiastically with the faculty in charge Dr. Madhura Rathod, Ar. VaijayantiYadav, Ar.Seema Burele, Ar. Harpreet Kaur Saggu, Ar. Priyanka Sambare to make this competition a grand success. Also Prof. Sarika Joshi diligently worked for the exhibition. Principal Dr. UjwalaChakradeo, Administrative Officer Mr. Gajanan Pilpile, and the entire teaching and non-teaching staff worked hard for the success of the programme.

“TEACH FROM HOME” COMPETITION

WES’s Smt. M.M. College of Architecture, Nagpur had organized a unique ‘Teach from Home’ Competition for “Innovative” Digital Teaching Tools and Techniques for teaching staff of SMMCA 2020-21. The entire staff of SMMCA participated in the competition by creating with YouTube links of their videos on certain portions of Architecture curriculum.

It was launched on 29th December 2020, all videos were received by 31st Jan 2021. Apoorv Tomar, Senior Product Designer at Walmart Labs and founder of interdisciplinary space and media lab called See Through, judged the videos and felicitated the winners. His judgement criteria were understanding of topic, creating interest in subject and storytelling / innovation. On 3rd April 2021, the winners Dr. Neeta Lambe, Prof. Atula Patwardhan and Ar. Namrata Tharwani Gaurkhede with first, second and third positions respectively were announced via online mode (MS Teams). Three consolation positions for Dr. Madhura Rathod, Dr. Sampada Pehwe and Ar. Nehal Maheshwari were also declared.

The judge appreciated range and quality of videos and said that this will surely create interest in students and act as a differentiating factor for the Architecture college. Dr. Chakradeo congratulated all participants and mentioned that this exercise will also create repository of digital teaching tools and techniques for easy reference, for a wider audience.

Under the guidance of WES Director, Dr. Shymal Nair and Principal, Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, the competition was organized by Dr. Neeta Lambe, Ar. Namrata Gaurkhede and Ar. Nehal Maheshwari.

Exhibition of Academic Work is one event in S.M.M.C.A. that the students, faculty and even professionals and academicians look forward to. The work displayed, speaks volumes about the college philosophy, education focus and quality of output.

With the pandemic of Covid-19 and the lockdown, the college also re-adjusted quickly and shifted to the online mode. Teaching-Learning process was uncompromised. The classes shifted online. Even in this new mode of education, students excelled and once again, they came up with good academic work for the Even Semester of Session 2019- 20. S.M.M.C.A. decided to exhibit this work on the digital platform as a mark of appreciation for the hard work put in by the students, inspite of the challenges.Since the platform was digital and the mode virtual, a new website page was designed with each tab dedicated for each semester work. A brief introduction about the subject or topic under which the respective work is displayed, is given for each Semester to orient the visitor.The Exhibition – Pradnya Darpan was inaugurated by Ar. Abin Chaudhuri, Kolkatta. This was done virtually by organizing a Webinar. After inauguration, the website was quickly browsed through and explained to the audience. This was followed by a talk by Ar. Abin Chaudhuri. This talk was organized as part of S.M.M.C.A. Lecture Series Jaitra. He appreciated the display and complemented on the way the webpage was designed for the Virtual Exhibition. Principal Ujwala Chakradeo also addressed the webinar audience. Valuable support was provided by other members of Virtual Exhibition team (Ar. Sarika Joshi, Ar. Mrinmayee Tiwari, Ar. Piyusha Rathod, Ar. Medha Pophale, Ar Tanvi Burgute and Ar. Renuka Chutke) in the designing of webpage and putting up the exhibition in virtual mode.

ACADEMIC EXHIBITION – VAASTUKRITI

Selected Academic work of students of all 5 years of Architecture for Odd Semester, Session 2019-2020 was exhibited on Sunday, 2nd February 2020 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This exhibition was open for all and especially parents were invited to this exhibition to have a look at college work of the students.

The exhibition was inaugurated by MLA Shri Sameer Meghe, Govt. of Maharashtra. He appreciated the display and interacted with students who took great pride is explaining their work.

This Academic Exhibition was planned along with a Drawing Competition by S.M.M.C.A. for school students of Nagpur. Ar. Sarika Joshi was in-charge for organizing this event.

GREEN QUIZ ON SUSTAINABILITY – “THINK GREEN 2020”

Green Quiz on Sustainability “THINK GREEN 2020”, took place at SMMCA Auditorium on 15 Feb 2020. It had elimination round for 6 participating teams, those are SDMCA, TGPCA, VNIT, SMMCA, IDEAS and PIADS.

The quiz was played among 4 finalists and the winner is VNIT, winning cash prize of Rs. 5000. 1st Runner up team is SMMCA and won cash prize of Rs.3000.  2nd Runner up team is IDEAS and won Rs. 2000. PIADS won consolation prize of Rs. 1000. The prizes were given by Dr  Ujwala Chakradeo,  Principal SMMCA and Ar. Ashok Mokha, Chairman, IGBC Vidarbha zone.

The quiz was conducted by Mr. Anup Manchalwar. The event was coordinated by Ar. Madhuri Gehani, Ar. Vaijayanti Yadav and Ar. Rashmi Tijare.

EVENT: DEBATE ON A CAMPUS “INDIAN INSTITUTE OF FOREST AND MANAGEMENT, BHOPAL”

Objective : To help the students learn the art of planning / design of any campus, which could be implemented in their thesis.

Coordinated by : Ar. Anuradha Tikkas and Ar. Madhuri Gehani. A debate was conducted by the above 4 students by studying and analysing the spaces designed and evolved in campus. They debated on the various considerations and attributes addressed during the planning process by the Architect. They largely conversed about the exterior and interior spaces and how they have been integrated to arrive at the most logical design solution.

SANSKRIT SKIT “POWER OF WOMEN” ON OCCASION OF NAVRATRA

On occasion of Navratra, on 3.10.2019, first year students in Sanskrit subject, prepared and presented a skit on “power of women”, where in the students played a role of women of different era and regions who contributed to the betterment of society. They were guided by their Sanskrit teacher Dr. Kalyani Kale.

PROPAGATION OF THE SWAMI VIVEKANAND MEMORIAL VIA ACADEMICS

Short meeting with Smt. Geetanjali Kelkar,  Kshma Dabholkar and Shri Anand Bagadia from Vivekananda Kendra, Pratap Nagar Nagpur on 1.10.2019 for discussion on celebrating Golden Jubilee of Vivekananda Rock memorial in 2020.

The agenda was to propagate the memorial via academics In upcoming semester.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH INDIAN GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL

Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian Green Building Council.

MoU was signed by Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal, SMMCA and Ar. Ashok Mokha, Chairman, IGBC Vidarbha Chapter. MoU was read by Ar. Rashmi Tijare (SMMCA) for both the parties, in presence of Animesh Mohpatra,(IGBC).

The MoU aims at promoting IGBC AP and educating students as well as faculties on Green buildings. By entering this MoU, both the parties agreed upon to conduct joint awareness programs /workshops/seminars / conferences for all stakeholders including educational institutions, professional bodies and public in general. Also Facilitate Green Building Study Missions.

This is the second institute in the city after SDMCA to take such initiative to promote sustainability in the campus.

EXTENDING HANDS: IN COLLABORATION WITH NGOS

A unique ten day ‘Vertical Design Studio’ for students was recently conducted at Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture (SMMCA). The design studio titled ‘Extending Hands: In Collaboration with NGOs’, conducted from 17th to 28th June, was formulated with the objective of sensitizing students towards societal responsibilities and issues, andalso towards designing at the grassroot level of our society.

The college has been conducting this design studio since the past five years in this innovative format of ‘Vertical Studio’ wherein each student team is constituted of students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year in order to create a robust vertical integration among students across the three years.

SMMCA collaborated with two NGOs – Apang Mahila Bal Vikas Sanstha (AMBVS) and Vidarbha Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VVKM). Faculty and students visited the centre and interacted with Smt. Pratima Shastri and other staff of AMBVS to understand the basic requirements and design considerations for designing a ‘Divyanga Prerana Kendra’ for them. The student teams and faculty also had intense discussions with Shri. Ravindra Sangitrao of VVKM regarding the designing of ‘Skill Development Center’ for the NGO. Students worked on the projects employing participatory, universal and sustainable design approaches, working towards proposing innovative architectural interventions.

Well known architects of the city Ar. Sameer Deshkar, Ar. Nitin Kurvey and Ar. Priyadarshan Nagpurkar evaluated the final proposals of the project. The studio was successfully co-ordinated by Ar. Sarika Joshi, Ar. Seema Burele and Ar. Nehal Maheshwari. Dr.UjwalaChakradeo, Dr. Priya Choudhary, Dr. Sampada Peshwe, Prof. Vijay Munshi and Prof. Shriram Marathe extended guidance to the team.
