SMMCA Completes a year of Online Yog Sessions (2nd August 2021)

Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture (SMMCA) celebrated one year of conduct of Online yog sessions by the college. The programme was an initiative of IQAC Cell and NSS Wing of the college. The yearlong sessions were conducted by Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal SMMCA from 1st August 2020.  The anniversary celebrations were conducted in collaboration with Janardan Swami Yogabhyasi Mandal, Ram nagar, Nagpur.

The Virtual Yog session was conducted every day and was attended by faculties, students, Family members of faculty, students and Alumni. The sessions were an initiative of Dr. Chakradeo as a means to connect emotionally with SMMCA fraternity.

The college intends to continue these sessions along with other faculty members. The first anniversary programme was hosted online and offline at Janardan Swami Yogabhaysi Mandal. Shri. Rambhau Khandwe, Executive of the Mandal and a Senior Yog Guru shared his words of wisdom about Yog and its effects on Personality Development. The programme was hosted by Ar. Seema Burele, Programme Officer of NSS unit of college. Dr. Pratima Dhoke Vice -Principle SMMCA, Dr. Sampada Peshwe Academic Head of SMMCA rendered their support to the Programme. Dr. Tarika Dagadkar was the event organizer.  The team worked under the Guidance of Dr. Shyamala Nair, Secretary, Women’s Education Society.

World Environment Day (5th June 2021)

The pandemic that the world has been dealing with for almost 1.5 years now has shown how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be. By shrinking the area of natural habitat for animals, we have created ideal conditions for pathogens – including coronaviruses – to spread. The fact remains that only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity. The theme for World Environment Day 2021 was ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.

NSS unit of SMMCA celebrated World environment day with full enthusiasm. A short video was prepared by the students and shared online. The video explained how we humans are destroying the natural resources and making the future generation deprived of it. It further highlights the steps to be taken to save the human by saving and nurturing the ecosystem.  All teaching, nonteaching staff and students attended the program.

10 days program of Yoga Session – “Shwasayam” – 19th to 28th April 2021

Corona virus is Spreading like wild fire all over the world, for which the entire world is in need of self-healing and effective exercise to protect oneself, doing YOG at such time is proving a blessing in disguise. We at SMMCA under NSS had conducted online YOG Session – SWASHAYAM from 19th April to 28 April 2021 which was conducted by our Principal Dr.Ujwala Chakradeo . Each morning session started with  thought for the day which added extra positivity and motivated the participants .Students, teaching staff and the nonteaching staff attended the session with great enthusiasm.

Under the same initiative –YOG Session which was conducted online from 19th to 28th April. 2 days session was specially conducted on – SWASHAYAM which was streamed live on You Tube on 21st April and 22nd April 2021 which was conducted by our Principal Dr.Ujwala Chakradeo. Ar.Priyanka sambare introduce Dr.Chakradeo with a welcoming note. This session was not only attended by our college students and teacher’s but also other professional’s and non professional’s from varied fields .The response for this session was very positive .The activity was conducted under NSS unit, SMMCA.

World Health Day Celebration – 7th April 2021

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated on 7 April every year, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other related organizations. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO’s founding, and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to drive worldwide attention to a subject of major importance for global health each year. World Health Day is one of eight official global health annual campaigns marked by WHO.

The theme for year 2021 was “Together we can reach a fairer and healthier world”. On the occasion of World Health Day, a small talk by Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo was organized on ‘Health is Wealth’. The talk was followed by the yog session. The program was conducted online. Teaching, non-teaching staff and students attended the program.

International Women’s Day (March 8) celebrated on 15th March 2021

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It’s a day where women are recognized and appreciated for all their hard work and dedication. Every year The United Nations declares an annual theme for International Women’s day. This year theme for the International Women’s Day 2021 was “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” thus celebrated the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remain.

Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture (SMMCA)- NSS Unit, hosted a live ‘In conversation’ programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day through the Online platform. The special guest was the renowned Television and film actress & Director Renuka Shahane. The online conversation with the actress was a part of ‘Srujan Samvaad’ Series hosted by the college.

Renuka Shahane in her interaction with the audience talked about her journey into theatre and films. In a free-flowing talk, she dwelt upon various aspects of her life as an actress and writer.  She also emphasized the role of an architect in set designing for films and theatre.  The program was conducted in an interview format by Ar. Seema Burele, Convenor. Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal SMMCA, welcomed Renuka Shahane. SMMCA students Prajakta Kulkarni and Anushka Daf posed some serious and some light questions to her, while Dr. Sampada Peshwe put forth the audience questions.

SMMCA hosts this celebration every year in commemoration of International Women’s Day.  The achievements of students and faculty are also celebrated. Faculty members who were conferred a doctoral degree – Dr. Pratima Dhoke, Dr. Madhura Rathod, Dr. Sujata Godbole and Dr. Tarika Dagadkar were congratulated and felicitated.  The annual newsletter of the College ‘Milestone’ and the annual student magazine ‘Her Space’ were also released on the occasion.

Late Ar. Sunil Toye – Landscape design competition awards for the year 2019-2020 and 2020- 21 were announced. For the academic year 2019-2020 first prize was awarded to Unnati Dhande, Surbhi Bhutada, Taruni Joshi and Nikita Chandurkar whereas for the academic year 2020-2021, first prize was awarded to Devangi Kothari, Anagha Kamde, Isha Chauhan & Kadambari Dakshindas while Mitali Chandak, Sakshi Rathi, Shreya Jaiswal, Tanvi Charde & Yukta Chandak were awarded second prize. The third prize was awarded to Mansi Singhania, Sakshi Verma, Shruti Agrawal, Vaidehi Gotey & Dyuksha Banai. Commendation certificate were given to Pranali Gabhane, Poorva Bopche, Muskan Modi, Nayan Agrawal & Radhika Digambar.

Unnati Dhande was awarded the first prize for Ar. Bharat Yamsanwar Award for ‘Excellence in Architectural Design’ for third year design studio. Saleha Pathan was awarded the second prize. The ‘Best Student Award’ for the academic year 2019-2020 and for 2020-2021 was bagged Bhagyashree Girgaonkar and  Rashi Agrawal respectively.

Dr. Ramesh Vaze Memorial Scholarship for the ‘Best All Rounder Student’ who displayed an exemplary performance in academics as well as extra-curricular activities was awarded to Vijaya kale.  The winners of 12th annual drawing competition were also declared.  St. Joseph’s Convent, Sadar, Jabalpur was awarded the ‘School with maximum participation’ award. The endowment prizes for the year 2018-19 were awarded to Muskan Agrawal and for 2019-20 were awarded to Sumedha Karandikar. For the academic year 2019-20 the winners of the J.K Cement scholarship (Renamed as Shri M. P. Rawal Memorial Scholarship) were Manali Bakhale, Radhika Mantri, Pooja Gattani, Ritika Balchandani and Archita Karambe. The CERA Scholarships were conferred upon Ankita Jamgade and Mitali Chandak.

The programme was attended by over 300 students, academicians, and professionals from various walks of life.  The team worked under the able guidance of Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal SMMCA, Dr. Shyamala Nair, Director WES & Shri Sunil Manohar, President WES. Ar. Harpreet Saggu helped with co-ordination, and Ar. Vaijayanti Yadav and Ar. Sneha Mandekar were the technical support team.

National Girl child day celebration (January 24th Jan 2021)
Celebrated on 27th January 2021

India celebrates National Girl Child Day each year on January 24. The day is an initiative of the ministry of women and child development and focuses on the need to address the challenges that girls face in Indian society due to gender biases. The purpose of the day is also to change the attitude of society towards girls. The objective of celebrating the day is to highlight the inequalities faced by girls in the country, promote awareness about the rights of a girl child and generate awareness on the importance of girl education, health and nutrition.

SMMCA celebrated National Girl Child Day enthusiastically. Guest lecture was organized by NSS where in Mrs. Meera Kadbe- social worker and director of the NGO- Olawa. Discussed the significance of women empowerment in society. She shared her field experiences about dealing with rape victim, how to become aware about girl safety, attitude towards girl child and many more. Her discussion was an eyeopener for all audience. Due to the pandemic situation the event was conducted by following required protocols.

National Youth Week Celebration – Greenery Management in the SMMCA Campus

Swami Vivekananda’s birthday on January 12 is always celebrated as National Youth Day and the week commencing from that day is known as the National Youth Week.Thus, it is held in a different state each year during National Youth Week, 12 to 16 January every year.

Under National youth day celebration various activities were scheduled by the NSS unit of SMMCA on 19th January 2021 within the college campus under the category of Greenery Management. The NSS volunteers identified the part within the campus which was cleaned by the volunteers and the waste was further used for vermicomposting which is maintained by the college.  Pits were made around the planted trees and watered. This was one of the most enjoyed activity undertaken as the plants were planted by the same volunteers when they were in first year under Rotaract activity, which inculcated the same feeling of belongingness with trees.

In all 12 volunteers and 5 teachers actively participated in the program maintaining all the Covid-19 protocols.

The entire Program was successfully conducted under the able Guidance of Dr.Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal SMMCA . Ar.Seema Burele (Program officer-NSS) and Ar.Priyanka Sambare(Program co-officer).

National Youth Day celebration (12th January 2021)

Youth is vivacious, confident, valiant, brilliant and decided. The vitality and   ability of the youth of our nation is unmatched.

National Youth Day was celebrated at SMMCA on 12 January 2021 being the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day. We at SMMCA offered garland and prayers to the “patriotic monk”. He was a great thinker, great orator, and passionate patriot. A small speech was dedicated to him by one of the students who focused on the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and the power of youths. Teachers and students actively participated in this National Youth Day celebration with all preventive measures during covid pandemic.

NSS report on Yoga Day – 21st June 2020

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India.Thus, inculcating such great ideology every year in SMMCA, Nagpur under the guidance and enthusiasm of Principal Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo an online event was organized on 21st June. Taking this activity further a whole ‘Yoga Week ‘was scheduled to inculcate the positive energies of yoga in everyones life.

Due to the current pandemic situation a small video is prepared by NSS volunteers which is a compilation of different asanas performed by teachers and students as well. The video is uploaded on youtube the link of the same is given below.

SMMCA Yoga Day - 21st June 2020

11th Annual Winter Drawing Competition

11th Annual Winter Drawing competition was organized on 2nd February 2020. This competition was organized in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Nagpur Chapter for school and junior college students from Nursery to standard 12th. The theme for the competition was Gandhi @ 150. Different themes were given for four different groups. Almost 750 students from 90 schools and colleges from Nagpur participated.

Exhibition Vastukruti was also organized in which undergraduate and postgraduate students architectural work were displayed and kept open for the public to introduce them to the field of architecture.

Health Check-up Camp – 1st February 2020

Free Health check up camp in association with NARCHI (National Association of Child and Reproductive Health in India) Nagpur Chapter held on 1st February 2020. The program started with small presentation by Dr. Nirmala Vaze on vaccination for prevention of cervical cancer. Haemoglobin, BMD and general check-up of students, as well as teachers were conducted. Team of four doctors, six nurses and two male attendants conducted the camp for the whole day in which students, teaching and non-teaching staff participated enthusiastically.

Martyrs’ Day  – 31st January 2020

On 31st January 2020, two minutes mourn was given on the remembrance of the great freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhiji. Martyrs‘ Day is an annual day observed by nations to salute the martyrdom of soldiers who lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation.

Girls Child Day – 24th January 2020

The first program celebrated under NSS unit was the National Girl Child Day on 24th January 2020.  Slogan writing competition was organized on the same theme, 40 students participated and submitted their entries.
