WHAT AFTER BACHELORS?

A bachelor’s degree in Architecture is versatile, in that, it offers avenues for future growth and development.

Further studies: B.Arch course prepares a strong visual art base which opens up Graphic and visual communication, furniture design, industrial design, product design and such other fields to an architect. Core post-graduate degree like landscaping, building conservation and interior design help enter the specialized practice of Architecture. One may also transcend the scale of architecture to an urban level, with courses like urban design, urban planning, infrastructure planning etc. Pursuing Architectural research through PhD program or through affiliation to universities and research firms is fast becoming popular in India. Architecture academics also remain an interesting and challenging field, given the fast changing nature of Architectural education in India. Interdisciplinary courses like Architectural Journalism, construction management and media studies can also be viable options after B.Arch.

Profession: Architectural firms exist at all scales; right from a single person set-up to multinational companies. A job in an architectural firm exposes one to a wide range of projects. In addition to architectural firms, it is possible to obtain a job in a multi disciplinary firm, based on the post graduate credentials mentioned above. Setting up an independent practice, though a slow process is also a rewarding experience.

About the Webinar:  

Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture hosted a Webinar on ‘Masters in Architeture – Prospects and Options’ on 1st August 2020 at 4.00 pm.This webinar was organized for the students  in the field of Architecture. Architecture is one of the humane professions like medicine. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in architecture is an accomplishment worthy of celebration. At this juncture in the students life, when they have completed or are on the verge of completing B.Arch, the decisions taken , the choices made have a profound effect on their future life. It is important to make an informed decision while choosing the right post graduation course. A masters course widens horizons and enriches the thought process. It is a choice to be made considering your potentials and career goals. This webinar titled ‘Masters in Architecture – Prospects and Options’ aimed to discuss about the various options available to pursue masters course along with future prospects after completion.

The webinar started with a small talk by Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Principal, SMMCA, Nagpur. She talked about the importance of a masters degree and its implications. The speakers included Dr. Lakshmi Rao who spoke about the Masters in Architecture – Architecture Education Course offered at SMMCA, Nagpur. Dr. Priya Choudhary gave an insight into the different streams in which a masters degree can be pursued. She also spoke about the newly established Urban Design Course offered at SMMCA, Nagpur and gave a glimpse into the work of the students.

Another speaker Ar. Kaushal Jajoo spoke about the competitive exams required for admission into a masters course along with the important stream of Master in Urban Planning and its sub streams.

Dr. Sampada Peshwe on an ending note talked about the design related streams in which a masters degree can be obtained.

The session ended with a question answer session conducted by Ar. Renuka Chakradeo where students asked an array of questions answered by our esteemed speakers.

Dr. Shyamala Nair, Director , Women’s Education Society (WES) and Dr. UjwalaChakradeo, Principal, SMMCA had urged students, academicians, professionals from the fraternity to attend it. And a good response was received with around 380 registrations for the event.
