WHAT AFTER BACHELORS?
A bachelor’s degree in Architecture is versatile, in that, it offers avenues for future growth and development.
Further studies: B.Arch course prepares a strong visual art base which opens up Graphic and visual communication, furniture design, industrial design, product design and such other fields to an architect. Core post-graduate degree like landscaping, building conservation and interior design help enter the specialized practice of Architecture. One may also transcend the scale of architecture to an urban level, with courses like urban design, urban planning, infrastructure planning etc. Pursuing Architectural research through PhD program or through affiliation to universities and research firms is fast becoming popular in India. Architecture academics also remain an interesting and challenging field, given the fast changing nature of Architectural education in India. Interdisciplinary courses like Architectural Journalism, construction management and media studies can also be viable options after B.Arch.
Profession: Architectural firms exist at all scales; right from a single person set-up to multinational companies. A job in an architectural firm exposes one to a wide range of projects. In addition to architectural firms, it is possible to obtain a job in a multi disciplinary firm, based on the post graduate credentials mentioned above. Setting up an independent practice, though a slow process is also a rewarding experience.
