Women’s Education Society’s Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture (SMMCA) celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025. This was the 18th consecutive year of the celebration.
Ar. Ditimoni Baruah a Bangalore based Diti Baruah is a Bengaluru based academician with over 14years of experience in teaching & research which includes creating tactile art & practicing interior design. She is a qualified architect & city planner with a B.Arch degree from VNIT Nagpur & a Master of City Planning from IIT Kharagpur. Baruah’s most notable work has been her expertise as a tactile fibre artist specializing in miniature aerial & landscape embroidery depicting the lesser known culturally significant places of North-East India. Hailing from Assam, Diti grew up amidst the scenic beauty of the far east & always wanted to showcase the lesser known parts of eastern India.
SMMCA also felicitated its Distinguished Alumnae of the 2000-2005 batch Ar. Neeti Bhatia Neeti Thakur, an Architect graduated from LAD, Nagpur and postgraduate from IIT Roorkee, having 18 years of industry experience, presently heading Metaphor Creators Pvt. Ltd, an Architectural & Interior Design Studio based in Noida.
Neeti is passionate about the design theory, philosophy and climate responsive architecture and has done research and delivered lectures on the same. She specializes in Hospitality, Institutional & Residential architecture.
Neeti loves to travel to experience and understand the diverse cultures and contexts which in turn bring about the requisite sensibilities that eventually translates to a more humane Architecture.
The annual newsletter of the College “Milestone” and the annual magazine “Her Space” were also released on the occasion. ‘Best Student’ for the academic year 2024-25 was awarded to Araisha Rab.
The entire staff and students of SMMCA worked under the able guidance of Dr. Avinash Deshmukh Vice President, WES & Director SMMCA, Hon. Secretary, WES, Dr. Nanda Rathi and Officiating Principal Dr. Pratima Dhoke for the success of the event. The entire event was conducted by Ar. Poornima Deshpande who was the convener.
