About the workshop:
INTACH Nagpur Chapter in association with Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture recently conducted an online College Heritage Volunteer Training Workshop. With the present status of the society to conserve, preserve, and restore our rich heritage for the next generation, the need is to spearhead the present young college students. To spread awareness among them and help them grow with the zeal to contribute, this program was initiated by the city’s INTACH Co-Convener Dr. Madhura Rathod. She is an Associate professor at SMMCA, CO-Founder of Architectural Sankul, and torchbearer of activities related to Heritage.
Dr. Purnima Datt, Principal Director, HECS (Heritage Education Communication Services), INTACH, New Delhi along with her team conducted sessions for more than 140 participants online. Followed by which a local heritage session on both tangible and intangible aspects was covered by Ar. Nitika Ramani (Co-Founder of Architectural Sankul and Additional Co-Convener of INTACH Nagpur Chapter).
All the sessions reflected glorious features of the heritage that we have inherited from the rulers and from our fore-fathers. The workshop started with an inaugural speech by SMMCA Principal, Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo
Dr. Datt said the main objective of INTACH is to create awareness among people to protect heritage and instill citizenship values as regards their duties. She appreciated the efforts of INTACH Nagpur Chapter to organize this workshop. The workshop was instrumental in promoting awareness about the need to develop the present generation of students to appreciate the heritage of their city, state, and country and teach them to live with it in harmony. She emphasized on the memories of the past which is fast eroding due to the digital era. “We cannot in anyway decimate the past even though we have come a long way from what it was.”
Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo said “Teachers are the torch bearers who will take the spirit of this particular event to young children in various schools and colleges and young generation should now strive for retaining the existing cultural, traditional, and built heritage.”
Ar. Nitika Ramani shed light on the facts and fascinating stories associated with the heritage of Nagpur. She spoke on the importance of conserving Heritage and transmitting this awareness among others.
HECS team members: Mr. Abhishek Das, Ms. Teresa Walter, Ms. Christina Shangne, and Ms. Sanjoli Mathur shared how to do this department of INTACH work for motivating and inspiring the volunteers to contribute to the heritage at regional, national, and international levels. They shared the volunteer’s contribution and their experiences through videos.
Ar. Vaijayanti Yadav and Ar. Sneha Bodhankar conducted the Question-Answer session and supported the technical assistance required to conduct the workshop online.
Dr. Madhura Rathod concluded the workshop by saying that: “Indian heritage showcases culture, monuments, literature, and other works of art. This workshop is a platform to know how to contribute collectively as volunteers in spreading heritage knowledge.”
It was a successful workshop that was initiated by INTACH Nagpur Chapter and SMMCA successfully contributed by INTACH-HECS, New Delhi to enlighten the young minds for their inclination towards India’s rich and glorious heritage.
